NEW EVENT! Brought to light 5k

To the members and friends of Living Word Lutheran Church: 

We’re excited to announce that LWLC has created and will be hosting the Brought to Light 5K Walk/Run, scheduled for July 30, 2021 (International Anti-Human Trafficking Day). 

Luke 8:17 tells us that everything done in darkness will be brought to light. Human trafficking is a hidden-in-plain-sight crime that we must all work together to expose and extinguish. Maryland is a hot-spot for trafficking, and the United States - sickeningly - is the world’s number 1 consumer of the “commodity.” 

More details are yet to be confirmed, but the walk/run is scheduled to take place at Allegany College of Maryland and begin at 6:00 p.m. (on-site registration and check-in at 5:00 p.m.). We’re hosting a twilight event to convey the message that we are bringing the light to the darkness. 

Registrations will be taken online and in person for a fee of $25. Registrants will receive a t-shirt and small swag-bag that will contain an LWLC-branded flashlight (bringing the light...) and information from the Maryland State Police about human trafficking. Our goal is to raise at least $1,000, so we will need at least 40 registrants. Please recruit your family, friends, and neighbors to join us in this fight!

We hope that you will help us make this event a success. Even if you don’t walk, we’d love for you to prop up a chair and cheer us on from the sidelines. Some other ways that you can help: 

• Donate packs of water bottles
• Donate light snacks (packs of crackers, etc). 
• Volunteer to host the check-in table 
• Purchase a t-shirt and be a walking billboard 
• Share our event on Facebook 

​We’ve also got a special opportunity for our resident business owners! If we all pitch in to sponsor the t-shirt purchase, we can donate more money from our registrations to the causes that we choose. Sponsorships are as follows: 

• Business logo printed on the top-back of the shirt (1 color): $100
• Business name printed on the middle-back of the shirt (1 color): $75 

Families and individuals may also purchase sponsorships for $50 and have their names printed on the lower back of the shirts. 
Any businesses interested in purchasing sponsorships are asked to please submit their logo to Caitlin Diehl. All sponsorships are due by Sunday, June 13, with checks made payable to LWLC and marked “outreach” in the memo line.
